How to disable touchpad – Ubuntu 10.4 – Asus A42F

Follow instructions on this link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1333961

That’s works for me…

UPDATE (14 August 2010)

After upgrade kernel from version 2.6.32-24-generic to 2.6.35-15-generic, I found something in gpointing-device-settings (sudo apt-get install gpointing-device-settings). Look at this screenshot

gpointing-device-settings with kernel 2.6.32
gpointing-device-settings with kernel 2.6.32
gpointing-device-settings with kernel 2.6.35
gpointing-device-settings with kernel 2.6.35

At least my touchpad is detected as a “touchpad” now. πŸ™‚

How to upgrade kernel?

I just follow instructions from here What is the best way to upgrade the Linux Kernel?

Just that?

After upgrade kernel, system can detect Fn+F9. Try it with xev (from terminal, just type xev). But, I still can’t disable/enable touchpad when press Fn+F9 with original script. So, edit /etc/acpi/asus-touchpad.sh

sudo gedit /etc/acpi/asus-touchpad.sh

And replaces with this

#!/bin/sh
[ -f /usr/share/acpi-support/power-funcs ] || exit 0

. /usr/share/acpi-support/power-funcs

getXconsole

if xinput list-props "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" | grep "Device Enabled" | grep 0
then
xinput set-prop "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" "Device Enabled" 1
else
xinput set-prop "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" "Device Enabled" 0
fi

Save and done.
